Toralde, Umbao: Living Proofs  of UNEP’s Commitment to Quality Education


Equipped with talent, skill and enthusiasm to writing, two fourth year college students from the University of Northeastern Philippines brought home the first and second awards as they competed with other campuses around the Rinconada area during the On-the-Spot Essay Writing Competition on Consumerism held last September 25, 2014 at the Camarines Sur Polytechnic Colleges, Nabua, Camarines Sur

.Raymond T. Toralde, Bachelor in Secondary Education (BSEd) major in Physical Science student and at the same time Editor in Chief of Frontline grabbed the 1st place and Mark Kevin B. Umbao, Bachelor of Arts in English student and Feature Editor of Frontline took the 2nd place. The two of them received a plaque of excellence and a cash prize which is a merit of their shown excellence and superiority in the said competition.

Together with them was Dr. Regina A. Gonzales, coach of the two winning contestants and adviser of Frontline who served as their light and motivation in giving their all out best through their hardships and diligence just to be a model and excellent writer.

Different schools in Riconada competed the said tilt having two representative students namely: University of Saint Anthony; Camarines Sur Polytechnic Colleges (Nabua Campus); La Consolacion College (Iriga); Baao Community College; AMA Computer Learning Center (Iriga Branch); Ceguera Technological Center; Holy Trinity College; Sta. Monica Academy; and University of Northeastern Philippines respectively.

The sponsoring group of this activity was the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in coordination with the Camarines Sur Polytechnic Colleges, Nabua, Camarines Sur.

“This is another testimony of how a UNEPian works and put a great importance in terms of the academic side of our life as a student. Writing competition like this provides great opportunities and memorable experiences for us, student writers. It cater skills in creative writing and of course instill consciousness and contribution to the welfare and development of the society,” Toralde said.

The Essay Writing Competition on Consumerism aims to inculcate responsiveness and awareness to students on how to use and consume wisely all the products and services we sought to buy in the market as well as the promotion and development of responsible citizenry as we are all classified as “consumers”.
